Old Testament scholars such as Fr. Joseph Fitzmyer, S.J., have a simpler explanation for the text: “Paul is clearly referring here to the conduct of active male homosexual persons and is merely echoing the OT abomination of such homosexual activity.”9
The second argument, quite creatively put forth by John Boswell, is that what Paul is condemning is not homosexual sex between homosexual persons, but rather homosexual sex between heterosexual persons. In other words: Homosexual sex is okay when homosexuals do it, but immoral when heterosexuals (drunk or inflamed with lust) do.
